It is one of the Rasayana plants of Ayurveda, as it is anabolic in its effect. It may be¬†used for venereal diseases, herpes, skin diseases, arthritis, rheumatism, gout, epilepsy, insanity, chronic nervous diseases, abdominal distention, intestinal gas, debility, impotence and turbid urine. It may also be used for¬†Eczema, Erysipelas, Psoriasis, and Urticaria from heat and aggravated Pitta. It ‚Äėcleans‚Äô the blood, stops itching and reduces supperation. The root powder is also used to treat STDs that are damp and hot,¬†painful urination; cystitis, urethritis, kidney infections, prostatitis,¬†Gonorrheal neuralgia, Syphilis,¬†also in mouth sores¬† of children.¬†Its alterative and purificatory nature extends to the mind, hence its may also be used in disturbed, angry or irritated emotions from high Pitta . It reduces Vata indirectly by calming the flames of Pitta.
